1. Tell us about yourself and your background.

I have A-Level qualifications in Media Studies, Photography and Psychology and have previously worked in retail and hospitality, with my last job being a Team Leader at my local pub in Norfolk. I moved over to Birmingham at the beginning of 2022 to begin my Digital Marketing Apprenticeship and work as a Marketing Assistant for FDC. I have now lived in Birmingham for a year and know I made the right choice moving here to start my career in digital marketing.

2. What is your role at FDC?

I am a Marketing Assistant at FDC, assisting with all things digital marketing which includes creating the content that we put out on LinkedIn, designing and creating pages on the website, writing blog posts for the website, creating newsletters, dealing with online enquiries, and many other things.

3. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given.

You only get one chance to make a first impression.

4. Why FDC? What drew you to the family?

FDC offered a great opportunity to build my career in marketing, and they are extremely supportive of people and their career goals, helping them as best as they can to reach these goals. Whether it’s by apprenticeships or supporting people with other courses or programs, it was clear that FDC will help support your ambitions.

5. Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

The university route was not for me, and I know a couple of people who have done or are doing apprenticeships who are happy they chose that path instead of choosing the University path. All those people love what they do and do not regret their decision to do an apprenticeship, so I decided that this may be the best path for me to go down and looked into doing an apprenticeship in a field that I was interested in.

6. What piece of advice would you give to people thinking about taking an apprenticeship?

Go for it! It is a great way to do something you love while earning a living at the same time. Without this apprenticeship I wouldn’t be where I am today so it is definitely something people should consider, especially if they feel as if university is not for them.

7. What is your career goal/aspiration?

My current goal is to finish my apprenticeship to the best of my ability and gain my qualification in digital marketing.

8. How have you benefited from your apprenticeship? What have you learnt so far?

The apprenticeship has helped me with my confidence in my job role as it has expanded my knowledge about digital marketing, teaching me things I can apply to my job role every day. It has helped me learn, understand, and use new technologies which have become helpful in my job role but also will help me in any marketing roles I may obtain in the future.
